The mind is like a flowing river, constantly moving in different directions. During routine chanting of Japa or Stotra, it’s common for the mind to split into two streams—one flowing with mundane thoughts like business tasks or chores, while the other mechanically recites the stotra. You may find yourself reaching the end of a stotra, only to realize you were unaware of most of it. This happens often, but don’t worry—it’s not sinful. Our gurus remind us that this is an opportunity to become aware of the mind’s wandering and to pray for ekagrata (concentration). Ask for the convergence of your mind, so you can perform your stotra with deeper love and meaning.
